Lead Server Engineer (UK Remote)

We are working with Hardball Games who are looking for a Lead Server Engineer to join their talented team in Brighton.

Hardball are a well-funded startup built around the Brighton-based makers of CSR Racing, Pure, Split Second, and most recently LEGO Star Wars Battles on Apple Arcade. The core team has been working together for over fifteen years in one guise or another on console, PC and mobile free-to-play.

Working closely with all disciplines, you will bring the creative director’s vision to fruition. You will lead the development of the server stack, Roll out, and management of live services

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role..

• Demonstrable work architecting scalable server solutions
• Excellent ability in multiple programming languages such as C#, Rust, Python, Go, and Java
• Willing to pick up new languages and technologies
• Flexible with new ideas and open to direction and iteration
• Ability to work with coders and game designers in a dynamic team environment
• Willing to help others and ask for help where needed

• Shipped server technology for one or more games
• Experience of networked game technologies and techniques
• Server technologies experience such as SQL, NoSQL databases, and Security (OAuth)
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP
• Understanding of network backends and cloud based servers
• Familiarity with analytics and experiment platforms
• Experience of providing mentoring and leadership within a code team
