Role Overview & Responsibilities

About the Role:

We are looking for a female* Personal Care Assistant to provide support to a lady who has Cerebral palsy, who uses a self driven electric wheelchair.

Duties include some personal care, social support and light domestic duties.

*(Sex Discrimination Act 7 (2) b (ii) applies)

Hourly Rate – £10.42

Day & Times – Wednesday evening, Thursday late afternoon, Friday late afternoon, alternate Saturday and Sundays. Day hours to suit during holidays.

Job Description & Person Specification

Job title: Female Personal Care Assistant

Location: Bournemouth

Job purpose:

An opportunity has arisen for a female Personal Care Assistant to provide support to a young female adult who has Cerebral Palsy, who uses a self driven electric wheelchair.

About the individual:

The lady you will support likes dogs, cooking/baking, cleaning, going to the theatre, going to Weymouth to see friends, seeing family shopping, going on a train and bus.

Rate of pay:

£10.42 per hour

Hours of work:

25 hours support per week, Wednesday evening, Thursday late afternoon, Friday late afternoon, alternate Saturday and Sundays. Day hours to suit during holidays.

Main duties

Social duties:

· keep in touch and socialise with family and friends

· attend medical appointments

· do hobbies such as dog walking, yoga or playing a sport

· attend social events such as music gigs or the cinema

.

Domestic duties:

· support with grocery shopping,

· cooking and serving nutritious meals and snacks

· cleaning, changing linen, laundry

These duties may vary from day-to-day

Personal Care:

· support with bathing or showering shaving & teeth cleaning, dressing administering medication eating

· performing exercises/physiotherapy

Qualities

§ Values: honest, reliable, punctual, non-judgemental, ability to build good relationships based on trust and respect, flexible, adaptable, easy going, willingness to travel, positive, understands equality and diversity or has a good sense of humour.

§ Specific requirements: an understanding of learning disabilities and cerebral palsy

§ Other: due to the nature of this role which includes personal care, the employer will consider female applicants only

Skills, qualifications and experience

Essential:

§ Driving licence and able to drive an automatic

§ Able to swim

§ Confidentiality

§ Good at building relationships

Preferred:

§ good communicator

§ likes dogs / pets

§ a good listener

§ ability to support people with behaviours which challenge.

§ DBS Check will be required
