Job summary
Permanent Housekeeping Assistant – 20 hours per week
Primary purpose of the role
As a Housekeeping Assistant your focus will be to ensure a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene is kept throughout Copelands including in residents' rooms.
Key accountabilities
General Housekeeping
- Ensure residents' rooms are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and that duties are carried out in a respectful manner, according to residents' needs
- Share responsibility with the rest of the housekeeping team to maintaining the cleanliness of all communal areas within Copelands, cleaning stores, toilets, bathrooms, and equipment (belonging to Copelands and/or to the residents)
- Ensure that sufficient levels of cleaning supplies and equipment are maintained and available and advise management on replenishing supplies
- Assist with serving meals and to ensure all areas are clean and tidy after each meal
- You will assist in other areas of Copelands to include the Kitchen, as necessitated by the Registered Manager
- Adhere to our Health & Safety policy and procedure and where necessary, bring to the attention of management, any area, piece of equipment, standard or working practice, which does not meet safe standards
Laundry
- Ensure an effective system of collecting, receiving / redistributing laundry is in place to ensure that resident’s requirements are always met
- Take care with items of clothing belonging to residents, you will be responsible for sorting laundry items by colour, size or fabric type, and for operating the necessary equipment in a way that preserves individual/personal laundry items, avoiding damage to these items
- Ensure the cleanliness of all bed linen / duvets etc and that these items are returned in exceptional order for re-use
- Laundering all items within Copelands and ensure, when required, that all laundered items are dried, pressed, ironed, steamed, and folded
- Undertake checks to ensure that items of laundry have been thoroughly cleaned
- Ensure that finished laundry items are folded, bagged, or hung up according to garment requirements, ready for collection.
- You must ensure that you operate all equipment in a safe manner and abide by the instructions of use in respect of each item of equipment
- Report any faulty or unsafe appliances or equipment to management
- Advising on the replenishment of cleaning agents/ washing powders/liquids/fabric conditioners to ensure the smooth running of the laundry service
Requirements
Essential
- Good communication skills and ability to work as a team
- Ability to use initiative to resolve issues and follow correct reporting procedures
Desirable
- Experience in a similar role within a Residential Care/Nursing Home environment
