Role Overview & Responsibilities

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who must have Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent qualification in Gynaecological Oncology and be registered in GMC’s specialist register or be within six months of obtaining this at the time of interview, to join our team of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and two sub-specialist consultant Gynaecological Oncologists. This is a permanent, replacement post following retirement of a third sub-specialist consultant.

There are presently three Consultants in Gynaecological Oncology working in the North Wales Gynaecological Cancer Centre. The proposed timetable for the new Consultant (see below) is a replacement for one of our existing consultants who is retiring.

The post will be based in Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor. The surgical cancer centre provides an on call service for the gynaecological cancer patients each week. We plan to each cover 1:6 weekends along with our general O&G consultants. However the on-call commitments for this post does not include any general gynaecology or obstetric cover. This is allocated 1.0 sessions. Both the on call and week-end ward round commitments involve prospective cover.

There will be a commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

One of the chief attractions of working in North Wales is the opportunity to live in one of the most beautiful areas of the British Isles. North Wales is an area of outstanding natural beauty. It includes Snowdonia National Park, as well as the beautiful coastline. Living here provides ample opportunities to enjoy the landscape, participate in outdoor activities, and take full advantage of the many benefits of rural living. Bangor itself is a university city with a cosmopolitan population, but with immediate access to those rural areas. The local schools are excellent, there are many independent schools to choose from, and houses are affordable compared to most parts of the UK. Bangor is sited in a most spectacular setting, looking out over the mountains of Snowdonia on the one side, and the Menai Straits on the other

We have three main hospitals: Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan and Wrexham Maelor Hospital along with a network of community hospitals, health centres, clinics, mental health units and community team bases. The Health Board also coordinates the work of 114 GP practices and NHS services provided by dentists, opticians and pharmacists in North Wales.

You will be able to find a detailed Job Description and Person Specification in the Supporting Documents section.
