Role Overview & Responsibilities

Bring your Operations skills to work that’s exciting, varied and really matters!

As a Landside Response Officer in our Small Boats Operational team, you’ll be playing a crucial part in the Saving of Lives at Sea operation and identifying vulnerable people who may require medical or welfare support.

This is a demanding operational role where you’ll need to be resilient, empathetic and act with integrity. If you enjoy varied and rewarding work and want a challenge where no day is the same, we’ll help you shape a fantastic career and provide great benefits including:

· Comprehensive law enforcement and personal safety training to develop your confidence and specialist knowledge

· 25 days annual leave, rising with service

As part of the Home Office, Border Force is responsible for securing the UK border 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Around 10,000 people work for us, with the majority working in frontline roles in airports and seaports across the UK and overseas.

Your role

Your Operations work will be mainly based at Dover or Ramsgate. However, you could also be based in Essex or West Sussex with access to official vehicles for travel to Dover and Ramsgate when necessary.

You’ll start with a minimum of 3 weeks training at one of our hubs and from there, you’ll be carrying out a range of activities including:

· Checking passengers and their documentation

· Interviewing individuals and carrying out investigations, searches, and arrests

· Dealing with casework queries and ensuring any decisions are followed up appropriately

· Visiting a range of maritime and high-risk locations on patrol and carrying out freight searches (you’ll need to be physically fit)

· Liaising with stakeholders and law enforcement partners to preserve evidence, arrest offenders and manage detention

· Collecting information to aid intelligence

When not required for small boat operations, the teams are likely to be deployed on priority work at other ports, such as, but not limited to Heathrow, Gatwick, Tilbury, London Gateway and Dover.

You’ll enjoy this career if you are

· Resilient and adaptable when dealing with challenging situations

· Enjoy variety with working different shifts and locations

· Able to keep calm, and act professionally and ethically to solve issues in sometimes difficult situations

· Genuinely interested in people, great at building relationships and can communicate clearly with empathy while keeping an open mind

· Motivated to lead, make the right decisions, and demonstrate professional behaviour and standards

· Objective, analytical and enjoy making reasoned recommendations based on valid information that can be justified
