Bus Driver - Trainee & Qualified

We are looking to recruit both trainee bus drivers and PCV holders.

If you already hold a PCV licence and have 12 months on your CPC, you could be entitled to a PCV Bonus of up to £3,000. Further details are available on our website.

What will I earn?

You'll be paid £12.00 per hour whilst you are training and once you are fully up to speed with all Carousel Buses routes and procedures, the hourly rate Monday to Friday rate is £13.90 and this increases to £14.50 at weekends, that works out to around £32,000 a year.

We will guarantee you an average of 40 hours per week and there are opportunities for overtime for those who want additional hours, which could boost your income to around £39,000 a year!

As an Carousel Buses colleague, you will be entitled to free travel on all Oxford Bus Company, Thames Travel and Carousel Buses services for you, one other adult and children under 18.

Job Purpose:

Being a bus driver is a job with real purpose, and your days are never the same as you’re out and about driving around your local community! Our drivers help people get to work or school, to a night out or a trip to the shops or doctors, so it’s a really important job!

You'll work on an any 5 days from 7 basis, delivering excellent customer care by providing a reliable bus service that transfers passengers safely and professionally. You will carry out skilled driving for Thames Travel in an efficient, effective and legal manner and sell and promote the full range of our travel cards and tickets available to the customers that get on your bus.

Do I need to have a bus driving licence to apply?

No previous bus driving experience is required to become a bus driver, thanks to our in-house Training School, where full training is provided free of charge. All we ask is that you have a minimum 12 months' driving experience.

We'll teach you how to drive a bus, put you through your bus driving test, whilst also covering accessibility and customer services training. Ongoing training will also be provided.
