D.P.D. Ltd (Date Palm Developments ) is a small Small, Somerset-based plant tissue culture and nursery business, specializing in Date Palm plants for export.

The company’s customer base is largely centred on the Middle-east and Gulf states, but developing market areas include North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South America, India, Australia, China

Candidates must have a good grounding in a biological science with experience of both field-based and laboratory-based working. Appropriate training and support will be provided but the candidate will ultimately be expected to support key customer relationships in the Gulf area as well as developing the company’s presence in the wider global market. Face-to-face sales negotiation (with back-office support) will become part of this role. The successful candidate will need to absorb a good understanding of the company’s production technology and also to develop sufficient understanding of the product in the field in order to support technical enquiries and trouble-shoot problems for farmers/secondary nurseries etc. in country. Confident presentation and good IT skills will be beneficial; as will experience of travel across a wide-range of cultures. The successful candidate would work as part of a close-knit team and, as with any small business, be expected to ‘muck in’ where required. Close co-ordination and interaction with the company’s Indian parent corporation will also be expected. Whilst intelligence and technical capability are essential, due to the requirements of the Gulf-market and the long-term basis of this role in the company, candidate personality, character and potential will form an important part of the assessment
