Role Overview & Responsibilities
An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand our current service within the surgical emergency assessment unit at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital. We are looking for a Band 5 nurse to join our team and support a 7 day service to acutely unwell surgical patients. The SEAU specialises in surgical and orthopedic care therefore some basic knowledge is recommended, however not essential. We are an ambulatory unit and aim to see and treat our patients within the day and carry out various investigations and procedures.
To provide clinical and professional skills within the SEAU and work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team. You will care for a variety of surgical and orthopedic patients within the day and will be expected to be able to carry out nurse led assessments of your patients and recognise a deteriorating patient. The acuity of the unit can change hourly so it is important you are able to prioritise your work load effectively in order to keep yourselves and the patients safe.
You will also be required to assist your patients getting ready for theatre if they are required to have surgery and be able to care for them prior to their operation. You will be required to facilitate safe discharges if required and plan appropriate admissions to hospital.
The Trust is committed to supporting flexible working to fulfil our pledge as part of The Trust’s People Strategy to help staff to achieve a healthy work/life balance. Please speak with your Recruiting Manager for further information and opportunities.
We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 695,000 people.
Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: ‘People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference’.
We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called ‘We care’. It’s about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We’re looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.
