Job Description
The role
As Assistant Marine Environmental Consultant, you will contribute to the delivery of a range of marine environmental consultancy projects, based both in the UK and abroad. The role involves supporting senior consultants with the preparation of environmental permitting and consenting work including data gathering, analysing data and preparing environmental submissions and environmental impact assessments for offshore oil and gas, renewables and coastal engineering projects. You will gain valuable experience in the preparation of written submissions; supporting senior colleagues and clients; sourcing and using relevant environmental data. This role can be based in either our Edinburgh or Portsmouth offices, although there may be a requirement to travel both within the UK and abroad.

- You have degree or equivalent in marine science, environmental management, or a related field
- A good understanding of marine environmental issues
- Experience of environmental impact assessments
Who you’ll be working with:
You will join a growing consultancy team, based in Edinburgh or Portchester. You will work closely with all members of the environmental consultancy team and will also regularly interact with other Fugro departments around the world, supporting a wide range of multi-disciplinary projects.
Here’s what a typical day would be like:
- Support team members with marine environmental project work.
- Data gathering, analysis and management of marine environmental data.
- Participate in Environmental Impact Assessments.
- Assist in the preparation of Oil Pollution Emergency Plans.
- Prepare permit and consent applications.
- Contribute to a high standard of service for all clients.
- Participate in the promotion of the company where required.
- Administrative tasks relating to quality and project management.
Who we’re looking for:
- A degree in Marine Science, Environmental Management, or related field.
- A good understanding of marine environmental issues.
- Knowledge of environmental impact assessments is essential.
- Marine Biology expertise with knowledge of environmental impact of the oil, gas and renewable industries is desirable.
- Knowledge of other marine environmental sectors such as ports, harbours, government and councils.
- A knowledge of GIS and numerical modelling would be an advantage.
