Role Overview & Responsibilities

An opportunity has arisen for motivated and enthusiastic band 5 Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly and dedicated Blood Sciences team at West Middlesex University Hospital.

Due to a re-provision of all major analytical equipment, you will be working with new, state of the art analysers including Abbott Alinity CI, Hq, and Stago coagulation analysers.

The successful applicant will participate in the laboratory rotation through the core sections of Automated Clinical Chemistry, Haematology and Coagulation and the specialist area of Blood Transfusion. Our busy department is fully computerised (Sunquest and Clinisys). Equipment includes Stago Star Max 2 analysers, Alinity HSQ Analysers, Alifax Test 1, Immucor NEO & Echo analysers. The Pathology department utilises the Q-Pulse Quality Management System.

Applications are sought from self-motivating individuals who have experience of working out of hours and making decisions with releasing results. Applicants must have a desire to learn and develop within our busy laboratories.

  • To work in all sections of the department under the supervision of a section leader.
  • Take part in duties without supervision at a level of autonomy requiring decision-making but can refer to more senior or medical staff for support and organize own work tasks or activities.
  • Must develop and improve your scientific expertise, which may be via CPD within an appraisal programme. Maintain a portfolio of relevant developments achieved.
  • To perform your work in accordance with the standard operational policies using intermediate theoretical knowledge and may organize own work tasks or activities.
  • Ensure that documentation is maintained to the Trust standard (including electronic records).
  • To demonstrate awareness and compliance with Trust policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. To work towards promoting this to others.
  • Identify and report clinical risks so that appropriate action can be taken in accordance with the Trust risk management policy.
