Role Overview & Responsibilities

We are delighted to announce that due to internal promotion a full time Health Care worker opportunity has come available within the KMPT Rosewood Mother and Baby Unit (MBU). This MBU which is based in Dartford opened in August 2018 for the population of Kent, Surrey and Sussex

Working closely with NHS England, the aim is to improve the access and quality of perinatal mental health services across the counties.

We are therefore looking for an enthusiastic Health Care worker to support mothers with acute perinatal mental health needs and their babies. This will include mothers in the antenatal and postnatal period within the MBU setting. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, working alongside professionals offering a therapeutic input as well as wider community teams.

The MBU promotes person-centred care by focusing on recovery through the provision of multidisciplinary team, working within psychological approaches and through therapeutic activity.

Support the MDT by:
Offering appropriate support and advice to the mothers, and accurately record all care given as required onto the patient care record (RiO).

Support with physical health care & physical health checks as required or instructed, documenting the physical health checks on the modified early warning scoring system (MEWS) chart and reporting changes to the nurse in charge of the shift.

Supporting and carrying out patient therapeutic observation checks as required and instructed.

Maintaining a clean and healthy ward environment and assisting mothers in all aspects of daily living skills as required, including personal hygiene.

Escorting mothers to attend hospital appointments and Section 17 leave if requested.

Serve food and drink to mothers and their babies and to assist/encourage the mother to eat and/or drink when appropriate to do so.

Undertaking duties as are commensurate with the post and the level of responsibility as directed by more senior members of staff.

Undertaking all relevant training as directed and participate in regular management/clinical supervision and appraisal.

Working a full range of shifts covering a 24 hour period, including night shifts. You may also be required, at times, to work at other Trust sites
