Role Overview & Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Student Wellbeing Services team in a new role dedicated to working with international students to help them have positive experiences and improve their University outcomes. The Wellbeing and Inclusion Advisor (International Students) will help international students to transition to university in the UK and access health and wellbeing services from the university, enhancing their university experience.

This role is responsible for delivering interventions targeted at international students to improve student wellbeing and promote inclusive practice and cross-cultural understanding, working in partnership with nominated academic departments and colleges to embed wellbeing support and inclusive practice locally. The role is responsible for facilitating the identification of students who may require short-term additional help at university, many of whom will be from non-traditional backgrounds, to ensure maximum student success.

The role forms part of the Student Wellbeing Services teams, who deliver a broad range of student services contributing to enhancing the health, wellbeing, personal journey and experience of students at Lancaster University. Other functions in Student Wellbeing Services include disability support, mental health and counselling, serious incident support, multifaith chaplaincy and the ASK service (including money advice for students).

The role holder requires experience of delivering services to students or young people and an understanding of the challenges of transitioning to and through the university environment. The role requires enthusiasm, energy and drive to contribute to a high-quality student experience. Lancaster University supports a large population of Chinese students and for this reason the role holder needs to be fluent in standard Chinese (Mandarin). The role holder must also have excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong positive working relationships with academic and professional services staff in departments and colleges and the rest of Student Wellbeing Services as well as key staff across the university.

For informal enquiries about this role, please contact Sarah Sweeney, Head of Student Support and Wellbeing (s.sweeney1@lancaster.ac.uk) or Jinghan Zeng, Professor of China and International Studies (j.zeng3@lancaster.ac.uk) .
