Role Overview & Responsibilities

This is a Fixed term post for 1 year

An exciting opportunity has arisen and we are seeking to recruit a fixed term 0.8 WTE (4 days per week- Monday – Friday within the hours of 9am-5pm) Specialist Occupational Therapist within the East Dunbartonshire Joint Learning Disability Team. This is for a 1 year fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.

The post holder will be an experienced practitioner in the field of learning disabilities/mental health. The post holder will manage a clinical caseload of clients with complex health and social care needs including mental health needs, physical disability, sensory processing difficulties, behaviors that challenge and forensic issues offering their unique occupational therapy contribution to care planning.

They will facilitate both assessment for and provision of specialist adaptations/equipment with involvement in environmental design. The post holder will be actively involved in supporting transition from specialist children’s services to adult learning disability services and similarly explore the specific functional needs of older adults within the learning disability service.

The post holder will be required to provide an occupational therapy focus within the wider multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team functioning as an integral member of the team and, where indicated, the professional leadership team leading on the development of an effective and efficient occupational therapy service. They will participate in the implementation of delegated local service developments as well as the wider NHSGG&C OT Service, evaluating with reference to clinical effectiveness, clinical governance and national drivers.

This will require the post holder to lead on and support occupational therapy clinical developments relevant to their locality in conjunction with the Professional Lead for Occupational Therapy and other senior staff. The post holder will provide clinical leadership and guidance for junior / support staff. They will support facilitation of practice placement opportunities for both undergraduate and post graduate pre-registration occupational therapy students. Practice placement education experience is essential.

The post holder will also support the Specialist Learning Disability Service learning and development programme for staff across NHSGG&C and provide education to other staff and agencies as required. Applicants must be registered with The Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and qualified to degree or diploma level.
