Role Overview & Responsibilities
The nutrition team provides advice, expertise, as well as acting as a resource for patients, carers and all staff on aspects of nutrition, particularly for those patients requiring ongoing nutritional support. Woking within the nutrition team, the nutrition nurse practitioner acts as a resource to all clinical multi-professional teams across the trust, on nursing aspects of nutritional support as well as providing telephone support in both the acute and community setting. This includes and is not limited to expert advice on all types of equipment required for the delivery of artificial nutrition support.
The Nutrition nurse practitioner undertakes teaching via various platforms both within the clinical and educational setting, as well as to patients and carers, across both acute and community services. The nutrition nurse practitioner exhibits clinical leadership and acts as a role model to ensure ongoing practice development, research and raising standards of nursing nutritional care trust wide. Close liaison with all departments in the acute and community setting is required to coordinate the admission and complex discharge of patients who require any aspect of artificial nutritional support.
