Role Overview & Responsibilities

We are looking for both newly qualified and experienced surgical nurses to join our hardworking team. Pulteney Ward is a busy surgical ward taking patients out of ITU. The ward has complex surgical patients both post operative and post ITU. We also specialise in head and neck surgery and the care of patients requiring tracheostomy.

Care of the patient with complex airway's can be an exciting nursing role this is supported by our ward education facilitator along with ITU outreach.
If you enjoy the complex patient with multiple ongoing clinical requirements this is the ward for you, We work closely with our deteriorating patient team to ensure our patients get the best clinical outcomes. We work closely with the multi-disciplinary teams and they have a lot of input with our patients.

1. Acting as a Named Nurse, to maintain accountability for assessing, planning,
implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing.
2. To co-ordinate the patients’ discharge arrangements in accordance with RUH Discharge
Policy.
3. To promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health
professionals.
4. To educate patients and their carers as required where a need has been identified.
5. To provide information which enables patients to make choices about adopting a more
healthy lifestyle.
6. To complete patient documentation correctly.
7. To maintain a safe ward/department environment.
8. To assist in establishing and monitoring protocols/care pathways.
9. To participate in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication.
10.To ensure patient confidentiality.
