Role Overview & Responsibilities

Job description

Children Missing Education Officer (18.5 hours per week)

This post provides an exciting opportunity to make an important contribution to Sheffield’s inclusion, Safeguarding, and Reducing Exclusion in all its forms strategies.

The successful applicant will work within the Children Missing from Education (CME) team to ensure that the authority meets statutory duties around Section 436a Education Act 1996. The aim of this role is to ensure that all children who are living in Sheffield who are ‘Not on Roll’ or have become ‘missing’ (left Sheffield without a destination school being confirmed), are effectively identified, traced and re-engaged. The post holder will be required to challenge non inclusive policy whilst maintaining positive relationships with Headteachers and other school staff. The post holder will also be required to produce high quality reports and complete referral documentation to support citywide panels (e.g. Fair Access), to access other services, and to escalate cases through attendance legal process and direction.

The postholder will be expected to travel within the city boundaries to undertake home visits and participate in meetings.

This is a permanent post – 18.5hours per week for 52 weeks a year. The post is based in Sheffield City Centre, and remote working from home is available.
