Role Overview & Responsibilities

The highly successful rotational programme within the Division of Urgent and Emergency Care has been running since 2018 and we are looking to further recruit more band 5 Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our outstanding teams across the Emergency pathway. The rotational programme covers the following areas within the Urgent and Emergency Care Division, these are the Emergency Department (ED) Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) Short Stay Unit (SSU) Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and Newark Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).

The Emergency Care rotational programme is an excellent opportunity for enthusiastic and highly motivated RNs who enjoy a challenge and a varied pace of work in a supportive team. This opportunity is ideal for RNs who are looking to increase their clinical skills, knowledge, and confidence in managing the acutely unwell patient with a variety of presenting complaints across all areas of the emergency pathway. This exciting opportunity is available to both experienced and newly qualified RNs who are looking to enter the challenging yet rewarding world of Emergency Care.

The successful applicant must:
  • Have well developed communication skills and time management.
  • Have effective organisational abilities.
  • Be a first level Registered Adult Nurse
The rotations will be for 18-month period, and you will spend 6 months in 3 of the following clinical areas of your choice (where possible and no area is mandatory)
  • Emergency Department (ED) covers 4 areas Resuscitation area, Majors, Minors, Childrens and Young Peoples Area.
  • Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) is a 40 bedded assessment unit receiving acute medical admissions and ED admissions with 8 beds allocated for patient requiring enhanced care.
  • Short Stay Unit (SSU) is also a 40 bedded unit with the focus on patient with a predicted discharge within 72 hours of admission.
  • Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) is an ambulatory unit that is open 7am –midnight 7 days a week caring for a variety of medical patients within the same day.
  • Newark Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) is an Urgent Treatment Centre open 9am – 10pm 7 days a week providing minor illness and minor injury care for Newark and the surrounding are
At the end of the programme, you will be guaranteed a post within the Division in any of the above areas without the need for a further interview.
