Higher Apprenticeship Level 4 Electrical Power Network Engineer

Base Location: Melksham, New Forest, Oxford, Poole, Portsmouth, Reading, Slough, West London

Salary: £21,054 + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Start date: September 2023

Working Pattern: Permanent Full Time

What is the Role?

Our Electrical Power Networks Engineer Apprenticeship programme lasts for up to three years and combines academic study with work-based experience.

During the programme you will study towards a Level 4 Apprentice Electrical Power Networks Engineer qualification.

When not studying, you’ll balance your time with the business team learning the skills you need to be an Engineer within the Distribution business. This may include working in the field and in Control Rooms or working alongside experienced SSE crafts people and engineers.

By your third year of the programme you'll be given increased responsibility in managing small jobs including technical aspects, safety management and the supervision of crafts people or contractors.

On completion of your programme you will be qualified to work as an Operational Planner / Analyst, Connections Designer, System Planner, Field Engineer or similar. Salary upon finishing the trainee engineer programme is circa £38,073.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to be:

  • Highly organised and self-driven with the ability to manage your time well.
  • Flexible in your approach to work to maximise your chances of success, and you should be happy working alone or as part of a team.
  • Comfortable to spend some time living away from home whilst attending college or on placements across SSE.

For entrance onto the educational aspect of our programme it's important that you have, or expect to achieve the below qualifications prior to starting the programme in September 2023:

  • Five GCSE’s at Grade C/4 (or above) including Level 2 or GCSE C/4 or above in English, Maths and Science and,
  • Level 3 qualification in Engineering OR A Levels in Maths and Physics

For this engineering career entrance pathway we are looking for individuals who are keen to develop their electrical engineering education journey in addition to starting their career. We are therefore looking for applicants who do not currently hold a HND, or above, in Electrical engineering. If you do already hold this qualification, then please consider other roles on offer.
