Role Overview & Responsibilities

Activities contained within SPAs are activities that underpin DCC. This includes participation in training, medical education, continuing professional development, formal teaching, audit, job planning, appraisal, research, clinical management and local clinical governance activities.

The department is committed to teaching. Study budget is allocated to this post and the post holder will be able to take Study leave to attend courses. There will also be opportunities available for the post holder to develop specialised interest in any of the plastic surgery sub-specialty. These include breast reconstruction, SLNB for MM including head and neck, basic paediatric Plastic Surgery, facial flaps and hypospadias for Plastic Surgery.
  • There is an on-call junior every day from 8am until 5pm. Out of hours on-call work is covered by Consultant On-Call for all other work.
  • Management of patients on the wards and outpatients
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to further develop and improve the service.
  • Consenting patients for surgery
  • Perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant in consultation, where practicable, with the doctor's colleagues both senior and junior
  • Cover other colleagues in their absence.
  • Take part in two Audit projects per year
