Part Time Farm Assistant for Seal Primary School Community Farm in Sevenoaks Kent. (3 days a week 8:00-16:30 (including one day of a weekend).

Job Description

Seal Primary School Community Farm has been up and running since September 2020, offering farm education to the pupils within the Inspire Federation.

The farm is managed by Sara Spellman, Seal’s Outdoor Learning leader who also manages two successful Forest School sites on the school grounds.

We are to open to the public one weekend a month (March to October) with view of increasing dependant on demand.

We are looking for a part time assistant to work alongside Sara in caring for the animals, general up keep, including DIY around the farm, assisting when welcoming other schools to the farm and running the farm on the days we open to the community. Our farm hosts a variety of animals, with plans to expand. The successful candidate will play a part in developing the farm and welcoming new animals.

We currently have two KuneKune pigs named Del Boy and Rodney (the Trotter brothers), two Pigmy goats named Ant and Dec, three Boreray sheep, all expecting babies In May. We have three chicken enclosures, plans to expand this is underway. Within other enclosures we have Japanese quail, two naughty rabbits, two guinea pigs, two tortoises and two Giant African Land snails.

We are looking for an enthusiastic assistant who shares our love of animals with a minimum of two years’ experience in animal husbandry and a life time’s worth of common sense. The right person will be a good communicator and a willing to work one day of the weekend and school holidays as well as term time. Holidays must be taken during school term time.

The role will be hands on so must have the ability to deal with some physical labour, including the development of the farm, cleaning out animals and working alongside the children and community.

We have a fantastic team at Seal and are looking for the right person to enhance our special farm.
