Role Overview & Responsibilities

Transition Bio is an innovative, early-stage biotechnology company with the vision of being the world leader in data-driven discovery, analysis, and modulation of biological condensates. At Transition Bio, multidisciplinary teams with diverse skill sets in molecular biology, biophysics, chemistry, engineering, data science and machine learning work closely together, building first-in-class technology platforms for condensate analysis and high-throughput drug screening. With close affiliation to Cambridge and Harvard universities, our approach is truly original and encompasses a growing collection of novel technologies and methodologies.


Transition Bio is looking for outstanding and highly motivated interns with a background in molecular and cell biology to contribute to the company’s ongoing target validation efforts. The internship is expected to last 2 to 3 months over the summer; and will represent an excellent opportunity for students who recently graduated with a university degree or are currently pursuing a master’s or PhD degree wanting to gain exposure, working in a rapidly developing start-up company.


Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain mammalian cells in culture, perform cellular assays including transfection, drug treatment and antibody staining.
  • Use of UV/Fluorescence/Luminescence plate readers, high-content fluorescence microscopes and analysis of the generated data.
  • Perform molecular biology experiments including DNA purification, gel electrophoresis and western blotting.
  • Maintain good laboratory practices, including excellent record keeping using electronic laboratory notebook systems.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, chemical biology, chemistry, or related fields. Students entering their final year of undergraduate studies would also be considered.
  • Laboratory experience in an academic or industry setting, specifically in molecular and cell biology.
  • Ability to organize, analyze, and deliver information in a concise, accurate, and professional manner; strong written and oral communication skills; excellent data management skills.
  • An interest in cutting-edge science and a high degree of integrity and team orientation; a can-do motivating attitude.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Be currently pursuing a master’s degree or a PhD degree in the fields of chemistry, biochemistry or molecular and cell biology and be curious to get exposed to working in a biotech company.
  • 1 year or more of experience working in a molecular and cell biology laboratory in academic or industry settings.
  • The ideal candidate would have experience with cell culture and sterile technique for cell line maintenance and/or experience with standard molecular biology techniques (protein/DNA handling, UV/Fluorescence readings, gel electrophoresis).
