Role Overview & Responsibilities

We have exciting opportunities in the Department of Oncology at Trust Grade ST1/ST2 level (SHO equivalent).

The posts will be based in the Department of Oncology and are available from 2 August 2023 until 6 August 2024.

The ST1/ST2 work on a rota of 11, alongside IMTs, Trust Grade ST1/ST2, FY2s covering oncology wards. This team provides resident overnight cover for the unit as a whole. Banding is at 1B.

The post holders will have the same education and training opportunities provided to trainees, with the same study leave benefits and will form part of an existing, supportive multi-disciplinary team in our world renowned oncology services.

It is essential that candidates have core competencies of Foundation Year Two, relevant experience in internal medicine and haemato/oncology, and GMC registration with a licence to practice. Good team working skills and an excellent command of English are also essential.

The candidate will have achieved all FY2 competencies to enable them to carry out a range of tasks including history taking, examination, diagnosis, clinical decision making, safe prescribing and medical record-keeping etc.

Department of Oncology

The workforce is made up of approximately 50 consultants, 20 SpRs/StRs, 3 IMTs, 6 ST1-2 level doctors, 2 FY2s. Leave is comprised of 27 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays and 30 days for study leave.

The Department of Oncology provides multidisciplinary multimodality care for all common cancers, and in the context of the ICS takes a lead specialisation in adolescent and young adult oncology, sarcoma, paediatric oncology, gynaecological malignancy and head and neck cancer. There are site-specific tumour leads for each tumour site who report through the cancer directorate. There are 35 in-patients beds, and access to ambulatory cancer services. The radiotherapy facilities include a full range of equipment providing a variety of specialised treatment services.

History taking, examination, diagnosis, clinical decision making, safe prescribing and medical record-keeping etc are amongst some of the areas that are covered as part of the job.
