Role Overview & Responsibilities

Previous experience in a HCSW role is essential (ideally in an acute setting) for a Senior Health Care Support (Band 3) role. For candidates new to Healthcare, we offer a Band 2 “new to care” HCSW role. If you do not currently hold a Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care, we can support you as work towards this qualification.
When you start with us, you will be offered supernumerary period to provide you with all the support you need to get you off to a flying start.
If you are keen to progress to a Band 4 registered Nursing Associate role in the future, this is the place to work! We are actively supporting the trainee Nursing Associate programme, and keen to support future apprentices in this role.
Working as a Senior Healthcare Support Worker on the adult inpatient wards at UHBW you will be involved with direct patient care whilst maintaining the privacy and dignity of patients. You will be supported and supervised by Registered Nurse or Nursing Associate. You will be
- Helping your patients with daily living tasks, including such washing and going to the toilet (hygiene & continence) or helping with their meals (nutrition).
- Helping with mobility needs and providing pressure area care.
- Providing emotional support to patients and their families.
- Providing one to one observation for patients who present a high risk due to clinical condition.
- Ensuring that the ward environment is clean and safe preventing infection and falls.
- Escorting patients to different departments such as x-ray
When competent you will be training and supporting new and junior team members, including student nurses.

Working Hours: 37.5hrs per week (full time)
You will be working on an inpatient ward, and you will be required to work long shifts (12hours) which include days/nights, weekend and Bank Holidays.
This is physically demanding role, assisting patients who may have poor mobility, and you will be on your feet for long periods.
This is an emotionally demanding role and requires you to adapt quickly to the constantly changing clinical demands on an acute inpatient ward.
