Role Overview & Responsibilities

The Finance for Systemic Change team at the Department for Land Economy invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant position (flexible and part-time work can be considered). The appointment is fixed term for 12 months, with potential for extension, subject to fundraising.

The Research Assistant will support Dr Belinda Bell, Dr Ellen Quigley, Lily Tomson and other colleagues associated with the team's research on sustainable finance. Against a backdrop of ever-accelerating climate change and worsening inequality, the Finance for Systemic Change team at the University of Cambridge aims to enact rapid and meaningful change within the existing financial system while also contributing to the emergence of a new paradigm. The mission of the team is 'to undertake and deploy academic research to mitigate systemic risks by working to change the practices of asset owners and seed the elements of a future equitable financial system'.

The RA is expected to work across the team including on a project assessing the feasibility of a 1.5°C-aligned corporate bond index, on research and administrative activities working with major global asset owners and on operationalising universal ownership theory. The RA will undertake various research activities including assistance with literature reviews, workshop organisation, and fact-finding, and will contribute to the writing of research reports and publications.

This is a great opportunity for candidates with a strong interest in addressing the climate and biodiversity loss crises, and an understanding of how sustainable finance intersects with other systemic issues such as racism, income and wealth disparities, forced migration and gender inequality. One of the key things we're looking for is someone who is passionate about these issues and curious to learn more. Candidates don't need to have a university degree, we accept applications from those with relevant equivalent experience.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 year in the first instance.
