Full-time: 35 hours per week

Fixed-term for 3 years

We are looking for a research assistant to work with the Walmsley group to help facilitate a programme of research investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate neutrophilic inflammation.

The Opportunity:

Limiting tissue injury caused by neutrophilic inflammation remains a significant challenge in inflammatory lung disease. This post will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to explore the link between core metabolic processes and neutrophil maturation and function in relation to inflammation outcomes and host pathogen responses. The post is funded through a Wellcome Discovery award and includes funding and an expectation that the successful candidate would use this work to register towards a PhD - Understanding neutrophil reprogramming to inform anti-inflammatory strategies.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • An undergraduate degree in the biological field (e.g. biochemistry, cell biology, physiology, immunology, pharmacology or related area, bioengineering).
  • Prior laboratory experience.
  • Evidence of a strong track-record in some aspect of biology.
  • Evidence of a strong work ethic, independent thinking and ability to work as part of a research team.
  • Interest in the mechanisms underlying the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating neutrophilic inflammation
  • Readiness and ability to: contribute novel ideas to the project, learn new techniques as the need arises and overcome experimental difficulties.
