Role Overview & Responsibilities
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is one of the leading UK Departments (rated top five in the REF 2014 exercise for research excellence in materials science and engineering). The Department currently has 40 academic staff including 13 Professors, 9 Readers, 6 Senior Lecturers and 9 Lecturers who receive excellent support from 17 technical and 11 secretarial staff funded from a range of sources. There are 65 postdoctoral research staff, 141 research students, and 224 students taking taught MEng and BEng degree programmes.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Engineering Technician in Materials Characterisation and Stores.
As an Assistant Engineering Technician, you will be an integral member of our existing technical support team. Reporting to the Technical Engineering Team Leader for Materials Characterisation, you will support the Department’s teaching and research activities by contributing to an effective and efficient technical service. You will be trained in basic materials characterisation techniques around thermal analysis, particle sizing and infra-red spectroscopy. Training in stores operational procedures will also be provided.
