The Healthcare Engineering group is looking to recruit a Research Assistant to join our team. The postholder will collaborate closely with academics within the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology and with our industrial partner, Eluceda, to apply the computational models to a range of photonic and electrochemical biosensors.

Role

We are looking for a Research Assistant working on mathematical models to simulate the biomarker binding in GMR biosensors. This study involves modelling convection, diffusion and binding phenomena in microfluidic channel. This post will involve data collection at the Bioinspired laboratories to develop the model and work closely with the industrial partner, Eluceda, to transfer the model into electrochemical biosensors. As a Research Assistant your main duties will include:

  • Developing mathematical models relevant to the project technologies
  • Writing reports, undertaking literature reviews and preparing papers for publications, with guidance as necessary
  • Working both independently and as part of a team of researchers and stakeholders
  • Participating in the research group and presenting research output where appropriate
  • Continually updating your progress

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

You will have:

  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate (MSc, MEng) Degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Experience with numerical modelling in computational fluid dynamics and/or finite element methods
  • Experience in Matlab, Phyton or similar software to develop the model
  • Experience in COMSOL is desirable
  • Knowledge and experience with biosensors and microfluidic technologies is desirable
  • Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing
